Sierra Nevada Rocks by Nick Psomiadis | Square Format

Sierra Nevada Rocks located at Portsea on the Mornington Peninsula. The entrance to Port Phillip is considered to hold some of the most treacherous waters in the world. The Rip, as it is known, has a large tidal flow through a relatively narrow channel from the bay to Bass Strait, and a high rocky seabed. The waters surrounding The Rip are synonymous with wild water and treacherous rocky outcrops that have claimed many ships since the 1830s when Melbourne was settled by Europeans.

One such ship, the Sierra Nevada, was an iron ship of 1523 gross tons. Built at Southampton in 1877, it was 71 metres in length. It had left Liverpool for Melbourne on 17 January 1900 and had been at sea for nearly four months as it approached the end of her voyage, Port Phillip.

A selection of exquisite photographic images from the eye of a perfectionist.

Nick Psomiadis produces each work in his own studio and true to his professional attitude this reflects clearly in the finished printed product.

Each image is a hand signed limited edition print on archival grade paper or canvas in a variety of size options.

Nick Psomiadis is an Australian born creative artist who since his early childhood was considered by others as a perfectionist. In 1986 he purchased his first SLR camera which was a brand new Russian made Zenit dubbed the "Russian Tank" weighing in at almost a kilo holding true to its name. "I remember the first pictures ever taken with that camera," says Nick and as the phrase goes "The rest is history."

Turning his passion into a profession and evolving into an international award winning photographer today Nick travels Australia and the world to such places as Iceland to capture the "Northern Lights", "Norðurljós" in Icelandic, with a camera equipment that would set you back the cost of a luxury car!
